The SOI is the first fully professional symphony orchestra created in the country, offering a series of concerts initially for two seasons in September and February each year.
Besides playing orchestral and chamber music concerts, the orchestra will be available as a prestigious accompanying orchestra for soloists, ballets, operas, musicals, etc., and is also planning to offer its services to international musicians for recording purposes.
The NCPA has collaborated with the international virtuoso violinist, Marat Bisengaliev. The orchestra is a full orchestra of which the majority are musicians provided by its Music Director Marat Bisengaliev, and 10 Indian musicians who were auditioned and carefully chosen, not only for their proficiency but also potential to reach international standards.
Marat Bisengaliev has agreed to accept the responsibility of being Music Director of the SOI for 2007/2008 period.
With India emerging as a global economic power, the establishment of international class of musical institutions needs to be established on a professional basis in line with similar activities in other Asian countries, particularly China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, etc. The initiative of the NCPA in establishing a professional orchestra along with a music training centre with international teachers, will go a long way in meeting the aspirations of the young musicians and the music loving audiences of India.
